The Enthusiasts’ Guide to Buying a Classic British Sports Car book provides a reasonably comprehensive buyer's guide to over 150 classic British sports cars from the major manufacturers between 1945 and the early 1980s and includes some rare models too.
This book is unusual in that the author was able to harness the knowledge of over 250 classic sports car enthusiasts from the different car clubs. They checked the text relevant to their models, and in some cases helped with photos of rare models. This help from so many enthusiasts is reflected in the book’s title.
There is a section covering Reliant Sabres and Scimitars that was compiled from material supplied by the RSSOC.
The book is not simply a compilation of previously published information, but includes much new material from the author’s original research and from information generously provided by many enthusiasts.
In this 184 page reference book, the majority of the 600 black and white photos have not been published before.
A unique feature of the book is the 100-point vehicle checklist.
If buying a classic; this is worth the price of the book on its own.
The Enthusiasts’ Guide to Buying a Classic British Sports Car is usually £22.95 but is available to RSSOC members for just £14.50. Here (in alphabetical order)are some magazine reviews:
Classic Car Mart: “… can only be described as one of the most in-depth, most detailed and most worthwhile sports car books currently available.” Classic Car Weekly: “Covering everything from Aston Martins to MGs, this book would be a useful guide to anyone seeking a new classic.” Classic & Sports Car: “Each section was proof-read and corrected by the relevant owner’s club, so there’s little doubt on the veracity of the data…. there’s an air of authority here that makes this a must-have reference work.” Classics Monthly: “The book covers sports cars up to 1982 with confidence and buckets of know-how for the would-be buyer. Accessible, digestible and refreshingly useful. Sure to become a CM favourite.”
